Microsoft on Monday introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot called Dragon Copilot that will help relieve medical professionals from the complexities of documentation. This AI assistant can record conversations between doctors and clinicians, prepare clinical notes, draft referral letters, and even prepare post-visit brief reports.
What is Dragon Copilot?
Microsoft created the advanced artificial intelligence-based healthcare assistance system which received joint development from Nuance Communications through their expertise in speech recognition technology and clinical documentation AI. The system uses natural language processing (NLP) together with machine learning functionality to support medical employees like doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers in their day-to-day work.

Dragon Copilot is based on Nuance technology
Microsoft has used AI technology from Nuance, which the company acquired in 2022, to develop Dragon Copilot. This AI assistant is a combination of two major tools.
- Dragon Medical One (DMO): This AI tool provides a voice assistant based on natural language.
- Dragon Ambient eXperience (DAX): This facilitates environmental data processing by listening to conversations between physicians and patients.

1] Recording conversations: It can record conversations between doctors and patients in multiple languages.
2] Generating Clinical Notes: This AI extracts data from medical records to generate automated clinical notes for doctors.
3] Generating referral letters and post-visit reports: It can generate referral letters and post-visit reports of patients in the doctor’s preferred style and format.
4] Providing medical information: This AI can also provide healthcare professionals with general medical information extracted from trusted sources.
