The iPhone 17 Pro is scheduled to be launched in September, but, ahead of the official event, several rumors and information have already emerged about Apple’s new line of iPhones. So, here’s everything we know so far about the company’s next Pro smartphone.
iPhone 17 Pro Specs
When it comes to specs, not many leaks have emerged. With the increased screen sizes on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to retain the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch panels.
The device will be powered by the new A19 Pro processor, produced using TSMC’s 3nm technology (N3P).
Another expected advancement is the introduction of a vapor chamber cooling system, which should improve heat dissipation and stabilize processor performance.
In terms of photography, the big news will be the front camera, which will be updated to 24 MP across the entire iPhone 17 line. In addition, the Pro models should feature a 48 MP telephoto camera, offering 5x optical zoom, which would quadruple the resolution compared to the previous generation.
It is speculated that the iPhone 17 Pro will be thicker to accommodate a larger battery and improve battery life. However, despite a possible increase in charging speed, it should still remain relatively slow: 35W.
iPhone 17 Pro Design
The biggest aesthetic change in the iPhone 17 Pro will be in the rear camera setup. Rumors indicate that Apple will occupy the entire upper rear part of the device to house the photographic module. Although this entire section is elevated, the cameras will remain on the left side.
This design change will affect all models in the lineup except the base iPhone 17.It is speculated that the iPhone 17 Air will also feature a “camera bar.” The upper area, which houses the cameras, will be made of glass, making it potentially more fragile.
iPhone 17 Pro Connectivity
The iPhone 17 Pro will continue to use Qualcomm’s 5G modems, despite Apple having developed its own modem, the C1, which debuted in the iPhone 16e. However, this new technology will be reserved for the iPhone 17 Air, leaving the remaining models to rely on Qualcomm.
In terms of connectivity, improvements are expected, such as support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3: the current industry standard.
iPhone 17 Pro Battery and Charging
Apple is expected to significantly increase the battery capacity in the Pro models, which justifies the increased thickness of the devices. There is still no concrete data on the exact capacity, but a considerable jump is expected.
Additionally, there is talk of an increase in charging power to 35W, slightly higher than the 30W of the iPhone 16 Pro. Apple will also be testing reversible wireless charging at 7.5W, an improvement over the current 4.5W limit.
iPhone 17 Pro Big change: The cameras
The two big improvements to the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera are the introduction of the 48MP telephoto sensor and the 24MP front-facing camera. The telephoto sensor will be particularly relevant as, by quadrupling the resolution of the 5x optical zoom, it should deliver sharper, more detailed images.
Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 5x lens is considered average, so this improvement could make a difference.
Another rumor suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro could include an adjustable aperture, which will allow users to control the amount of light entering the lens. If confirmed, this feature is likely to first appear on the iPhone 17 Pro Max before making its way to the smaller Pro model.
iPhone 17 Pro Price and Release Date
In the case of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the price should remain at US$ 1,199, reflecting Apple’s tendency to maintain consistency in the values of each generation.
The company usually announces new iPhones in September. The iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max are likely to be available as early as this month, while the iPhone 17 Air could arrive a little later, possibly in October.
